TIME TO SAY GOODBYE...OR MAY BE UNTIL THE NEXT TIME

Image
Our meeting in Alaquàs has finished. It's time for farewell.  In the afternoon we had a snack with the families....delicious hot chocolate and "bunyols" a kind of fried dough made up of flour and pumpkin. The teachers of host countries gave an appreciation letter to the parents, and it was read aloud. Finally, we watch a video that summed up most of the activities, moments and feelings we had. In the airport a few tears were seen.....💗💗💗💗💗💗 We are sure some of us will see each other again.

WATER FOOTPRINT

Image
In the morning we did a water footprint test that showed our water footprint. There were questions about our families’ water use, for example how long the showers are in our families, how often we wash our clothes and how much our families eat meat.  We realized that the average usage in the United States was much higher than the usage in European countries. For example some of us have low-flow faucets and we’re more cautious about how much water we use.  Here is the link for the footprint test:  https://www.watercalculator.org/

Cycling in Devasa

Image
We were biking along a beach called Platja de la Devasa and we took stops to learn about water and the places history. We all had so much fun and got to know the surroundings so much better. In the Devasa there is 4 different vegetation areas: For example one is Mediterranean, typical plant for Mediterranean area is olive tree. There is also a dyne area and it is really dry. We got some good memories with our new friends. We were surprised about the interesting facts that we learned in different locations. Only bad thing was those ponds that we had to bike trough but I found it really fun. Also the waves were big.

SEO birdlife

At  around 10.30, a long wooden boat arrived at the docks where we were waiting. The boat had benches on the sides, where all of us fit perfectly, with the driver of the boat standing in the back.  Only half ofthe group was in the boat at the time, and the other half was on a bike trip. The air was cold and it was quite windy, but luckily most of us were prepared for the weather, since it was similar to what it had been the last few days. The weather actually got better when we were about halfway done with the trip. Then it got easier to enjoy the view, which was green water, reeds and tall buildings in the skyline. The trip was about 20 minutes long, which was just the right amount of time to look at the surroundings and have great conversations. Eventually we arrived at the SEO safely. On the way back though, we ran out of gas momentarily, but thankfully the boat had an extra gas tank just in case, and we did not have to swim back to land. In concl...

ALAQUÀS CITY TOUR

Image
We went through Alaquas old town with a guide who also was a teacher at the school who showed us the famous things about the old City, and a German treacherous from Herzogenrath translated the explanation into English.  At First, he showed us the streets and houses and told us some Facts about it how the roof of the houses was built so that they catch the rainwater and let it flow down so they can collect it. The old city was built by the Arabians in the 16th century as you could see by the architecture and the small streets. We also saw a Parking lot that was a big plaza back then, it was really cool.  As the tour went on he showed us the oldest bakery with the oldest oven in Alaquas we could see through a small hole in the wall.  Later we saw a big plaza with nice houses build in the 19th century in the modern style, we talked about the architecture and the Clay vases that you could see all around the city and how they were made.  After that, they showed us ...

Welcoming by the major

Image
Our day started at 8:00 am at our school in Alaquas. Our meeting point was at the gym, and we were very tired because of our experiences of the last day.  When we were going to the town hall it was raining and we were glad to arrive at the town hall.  The major of Alaquas Toni Saura welcomes us at the plenary hall with the woman Marian Espert who is responsible for the social projects in Alaquas. They told us things about the population and the economy, we were very shocked that Alaquas have more or less than 30 000 citizens because cologne has around 8 million citizens. The fact that he told us that Alaquas created a new forest showed us that the politic in Alaquas cares about the environment and climate change. He also told us about the castle of Alaquàs, and that the historic monument is now used for festivals or meetings. Toni Saura told us something about his private life and that he was a teacher and become a major in 2019, he spoke with us and we took some pictur...

WATER INSPECTION

Image
When we arrived at the "CENTRE D'INTERPRETACIO DE LA NATURA QUART DE POBLET" it was raining and we were welcomed by a friendly woman named Sarah. After we put our clothes away she explained to us how a riverbed is structured. The plants closest to the water are grasses they filter the water.  The second stage consists of flexible plants like canes from china and local bushes that slow the water down. After that, she talked about big plants for example trees. We went on and analyzed the water quality by identifying the insects in the probes. In the room was also an aquarium with three turtles. One of them was always trying to escape. The tour was fun and formative.  We went back to a cafe to sit out the rain.

Visiting Valencia and the Ocean World

Image
Hello, today people from Poland take control over our Erasmus blog  Tuesday was a long, fruitful, and full of experience day. We started with a tournament of pictures that we took with the topic of saving water. After that we went to the oceanarium which was AMABLE. The experience was amazing because we could see how marine vets work from the backstage. We saw why the turtle’s population is decreasing, we learned what  the worst dangers for them are and how we can look after TORTUGES. We were terrified about the data that educator showed us. For example, the fact that those wonderful animals eat plastic, which is why vets must perform surgeries. One of the most important lessons that we learned was how to behave when we see a turtle on sand. You can’t take them into the water, but its necessary to call 112 and inform the relevant authorities. We think that it should be a must for every organization to make up for the damages they cause. The water that flows into the ocean...

Getting to know each other

Image
Our first day after arriving at Spain. Our day started with getting to know each other using games like standing in a line according to the hair colour, height, eye colour or shoe size. One thing that was funny is that we had to touch other people's hand or head according to hair colour or country, for example. We can't wait to spend the rest of the week here!

And the winner iiiissss.... not us! :(

When these activities ended, we took the bus back to Alaquas and had time to go home and have lunch with our exchange partners. That is different to our school, we have our lunch break there. At 15.45 we met again for the last activity of the day in a kind of office building next to the school, where we presented our schools and local water sources. We got many new information about the other countries, that was very interesting. Based on the facts given from both presentations we played kahoot. Each country played against each other - a lot of fun. The finish school won.  We got post-its to write expectations and questions about Spain and the project. These were shown to all students at school. We are looking forward to get our answers during the week. After school we met in a café - a group of mixed students. We had spanish cakes, they tasted so good.  The best part of the official day was the kahoot and our free time, where we learned a lot about the spanish culture....
