Our first trip

After we had introduced ourselves, we went on !!!our first trip in Spain!!!
We went to the Environmental Education Center (it's an environmental center). There we  learned about the agricultural past and today, especially about irrigation from the Romans and Arabs until the modern irrigation, and also the plants and trees they have introduced in the South of Spain. It was very interesting!!



We were lucky our teacher Ms Alemàn translated "more or less" everything...it was really funny to see her in this situation. Unfortunately it started raining and some of the other groups couldn't see the garden.. 





We were so lucky that the guide even let us try some of the fruits there... have you ever heard of cumquats?? it's like a mini orange you can eat with the skin...crazy!




After we were in the garden we went inside and learned something about sustainable fishing and how the people worked and used energy in a kitchen from the 17th century.

  We went through Alaquas old town with a guide who also was a teacher at the school who showed us the famous things about the old City, and a German treacherous from Herzogenrath translated the explanation into English.  At First, he showed us the streets and houses and told us some Facts about it how the roof of the houses was built so that they catch the rainwater and let it flow down so they can collect it. The old city was built by the Arabians in the 16th century as you could see by the architecture and the small streets. We also saw a Parking lot that was a big plaza back then, it was really cool.  As the tour went on he showed us the oldest bakery with the oldest oven in Alaquas we could see through a small hole in the wall.  Later we saw a big plaza with nice houses build in the 19th century in the modern style, we talked about the architecture and the Clay vases that you could see all around the city and how they were made.  After that, they showed us ...

Welcoming by the major

  Our day started at 8:00 am at our school in Alaquas. Our meeting point was at the gym, and we were very tired because of our experiences of the last day.  When we were going to the town hall it was raining and we were glad to arrive at the town hall.  The major of Alaquas Toni Saura welcomes us at the plenary hall with the woman Marian Espert who is responsible for the social projects in Alaquas. They told us things about the population and the economy, we were very shocked that Alaquas have more or less than 30 000 citizens because cologne has around 8 million citizens. The fact that he told us that Alaquas created a new forest showed us that the politic in Alaquas cares about the environment and climate change. He also told us about the castle of Alaquàs, and that the historic monument is now used for festivals or meetings. Cycling in Devasa

We were biking along a beach called Platja de la Devasa and we took stops to learn about water and the places history. We all had so much fun and got to know the surroundings so much better. In the Devasa there is 4 different vegetation areas: For example one is Mediterranean, typical plant for Mediterranean area is olive tree. There is also a dyne area and it is really dry. We got some good memories with our new friends. We were surprised about the interesting facts that we learned in different locations. Only bad thing was those ponds that we had to bike trough but I found it really fun. Also the waves were big.
